As much as possible water your trees using a garden hose close to the trunk. Leave the water on at about pencil width for 30 minutes. Do this 2-3 times a week depending on the heat or rain that week. It is IMPERATIVE that you check the soil 2 days after watering to see if you need to adjust the amount of watering.
Watering Schedule:
At Planting: Water it once until the ground is completely saturated. Usually about 1 hour using the pencil width hose method.
Through Year 1: Water every 2-3 days. Water for 30 minutes per tree and then come back 2 days later and check the top 3-5" of soil to see if it has retained moisture. Adjust watering accordingly.
Late Fall year 1: Provide one final deep soak before the ground freezes, around Thanksgiving.
Through Year 2: Water 1-2x per week, every week, if it doesn't rain. Water slightly longer during hot or dry periods.
